Who’s copying who? Mavins ‘Janta Manta’ or Five Star Music’s ‘Ebeano’?

Mavin Vs. Five Star

Mavin VS. Five Star

Yesterday, Don Jazzy and the Mavin crew released a new tune ‘Janta Manta‘ featuring everyone on the label – Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Dr SID, D’Prince, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Di’Ja.

But earlier in the day, Five Star Music had released a similar song titled ‘Ebeano’also featuring everyone on the label: ‘Kcee, Harrysong and Skiibii.

LISTEN TO EBEANO

Now, what do both songs have in common?

The beat: Mavin’s Janta Manta was produced by Don Jazzy while Five Star Music’s ‘Ebeano’ was produced by Mystro. Both songs have a highlife feel that’s now called ‘Palm-wine music’ on the streets. Ebeano is a bit faster while ‘Janta Manta’ is mid-tempo, but it doesn’t take away the similarities.

The crew: Each song has the full representation of all artistes under the label. All 7 acts under Mavin featured in ‘Janta Manta’ while all 3 acts under Five Star Music featured in ‘Ebeano’.

The Chorus:

Ebeano: ‘Sisi Agatha, all your tins e dey sweet my heart o! O lo lo lo Ebaeno!

On top your matter, I fall for gutter, e dey sugar my heart o! O lo lo lo Ebaeno!’

Janta Manta: Janta Manta Kill and Jam, Kaba kaba ee eehh Janta Manta Kaba Kaba (2ce)

The Twist: In July, Don Jazzy shared snippets off an unfinished ‘Janta Manta’ on Instagram. Pundits are speculating: Is it possible someone at Five Star Music ‘borrowed’ the idea after listening? Only an evidence that they recorded theirs earlier will silence those alleging the label ripped the Mavin concept

While the debate grows, may we now officially welcome ‘Palm – Wine’ music into mainstream? Congrats all Kegites!
