A 32-year-old woman died after the head
of her newborn child was left inside her womb for several hours in Uttar
Pradesh, northern India.
Geeta Devi was admitted to hospital after going into labour on Saturday night but tragically died in the early hours of Sunday.
In the terrifying case of medical negligence, doctors, delivering a baby, pulled the body of a baby girl so hard they left her head inside the mother’s womb.
What is even more appalling is that the shocked woman was abandoned and sent to another hospital where the baby’s head was finally removed. Unfortunately, doctors could not save Devi’s life.
Her heartbroken husband Hemant said: “It is the fault of the doctors. First they removed the body of my baby – leaving the head inside – and then they told use to take my wife to another hospital. They just left us. Eventually a local nursing home took my baby’s head out if my wife but she died. They could not save her.”
Commenting on the incident, Deputy Superintendent of Shahjahanpur Police, Officer K G Yadav, said: “The hospital didn’t have sufficient medical arrangements and hence the mother was referred to another hospital.
The doctors were not capable of handling this tragic situation and it is due to their negligence the infant’s head was left inside the mother. An investigation has started and once the names of the doctors responsible come out, strict action will be taken.”
