On Tuesday, opposition leader General Muhammadu Buhari was elected President of Nigeria. Many across northern Nigeria, especially in Daura his birthplace, have been celebrating ever since.

Buhari said that he had ruled Nigeria as part of a military administration
British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC’s reporter, Abdullahi Kaura Abubakar visited the very house where General Buhari was born and here are photos. Here are photos from the video the news site released and they truly reflect Buhari’s humble beginnings. The video reveals that his relatives still live there and Gen Buhari’s sister,  Rakiya Amadodo Muhammadu, is excited and elated that her brother has been elected president of Nigeria.


BBC’s Abdullahi also chatted with Buhari’s best friend while he was young, Alhaji Lawal Aliyu. When he was asked what kind of a boy Buhari was, Alhaji Aliyu said he was a cool, disciplined boy. He made it known that it was when he went to secondary school and he later joined the military that he became more and more disciplined.

Alhaji Aliyu revealed that as disciplined as the general was as a young boy, he never bullied him….

No Cooking With Fire This Sunday in Benin City Due to Funeral Rites ofthe Late Oba

As part of activities for the continuation of the 15 days funeral rites of late Benin Monarch, Oba Erediauwa, residents in Benin kingdom have been told not to cook with fire on Sunday 5th June. It is the day of Igberimwin in the royal funeral rites programme. A press statement signed by Secretary to the Benin Traditional Council, Mr. Frank Irabor said the cooking without fire was in accordance with Benin customs and tradition.
