GRAPHIC PHOTOS: Many Feared Dead In A Fire Outbreak At Chicason Gas Plant Nnewi

The Christmas mood in Nnewi was shattered midday today as Chikason gas depot located at Nnewi-Okigwe Road, Anambra State, behind Innoson Motor Manufacturing industry today exploded.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosion shook buildings causing panic, deaths and horror. There are doubts Nnewi has ever witnessed anything like this. The depot and its surroundings including family compounds located beside it were completely burnt. Motorcyclists using the depot road were burnt beyond recognition.

All workers and customers at the Depot were also burnt beyond recognition. Graphic photos below Men of the fire service and road safety are currently at the scene trying to prevent further damage and at same time evacuating the seen burnt bodies. The cause of the fire is yet unknown.

No Cooking With Fire This Sunday in Benin City Due to Funeral Rites ofthe Late Oba

As part of activities for the continuation of the 15 days funeral rites of late Benin Monarch, Oba Erediauwa, residents in Benin kingdom have been told not to cook with fire on Sunday 5th June. It is the day of Igberimwin in the royal funeral rites programme. A press statement signed by Secretary to the Benin Traditional Council, Mr. Frank Irabor said the cooking without fire was in accordance with Benin customs and tradition.
