  A former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Habib Jega, has died in an auto crash. Close family sources say the accident occurred along Birnin Kebbi-Kangiwa road at about 5:21 p.m. on Friday. The former speaker is also the Special Adviser on Local Government to the current Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Dakingari, while confirmed the death on phone said , “We are currently attending his burial according to Islamic right in Jega.” Late Mr. Jega was impeached in 2015 during the build up to the 2015 general election as rumours emerged he would join the then opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.

  An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos has granted custody rights to Eniola, son of multi-billionaire businessman, Mike Adenuga, over his 16-month old daughter. But his girlfriend with whom he had the child, Maggie Ogun, a pharmacist, has sought the court’s leave to appeal the order. Chief Magistrate O. A. Ogunbowale dismissed Ogun’s objection that Adenuga cannot take adequate care of the child. “Consequently, the applicant (Adenuga) is hereby granted an overnight access to the subject (child) every fortnight from 8 am on Saturday to 12 noon on Sunday,” she ruled. The order, she said, took effect from March 16 and would subsist until the case is determined. But, Ogun, through her lawyer, Mrs Marian Jones of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), has applied to the magistrate for leave to appeal the ruling. An accused person in court shocked the Judge in charge of his case when he stormed the legal proceeding with fetish material suspected to be charms.  An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba on Friday adjourned the trial of a suspected fraudster when the accused was found to be in possession of objects suspected to be charms. Chief Magistrate Omolade Awope had observed that the accused was feeling uncomfortable and jittery in the dock and ordered that a thorough body search be conducted on him. Following the search, assorted objects suspected to be charms were found hidden under the dress of the 41-year-old accused, Ibrahim Umaru. As a result of the shocking discovery, the chief magistrate deferred the trial of the suspected fraudster to June 10.   Gunmen on Saturday attacked the country home of King AmalateTurner at Opume in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa destroying household furniture and electronics.  Prominent Bayelsa Monarch, King Amalate Turner of Opume in Ogbia Local Government Area, has been reportedly attacked by unknown gunmen at his country home on Saturday, destroying household furniture and electronics.   The gunmen, about 20 of them who wore military camouflage for the attack, were said to have stormed the community in two speed boats at about 12.55 a.m. on Saturday.   It was gathered that the motive behind the attack is unknown as Mr. Turner, an associate of Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, was recently quizzed by state security operatives who had invaded his Abuja residence a few weeks ago over allegations of contract scam.   Though no life was lost during the attack, a witness disclosed to a reporter that it lasted about three hours as property worth millions of naira were destroy...
