Chief Olu Falae, a former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reportedly escaped death by the whiskers, Vanguard reports.
The former Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), who was on his way to Ile-Ife to meet other members of the pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere on a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, expressed total shock at the turn of events.
The incident, according to him, occurred along Akure-Ilesha Express way as mobile policemen shot at his car at the Ile-Oluji junction.
Falae was also kidnapped in his Akure home last year and detained for several days before being rescued by the security agents said: “When was I kidnapped that they want to kill me now?
“I was coming from Akure approaching Ilesa. I saw some vehicles ahead of me. There was a bullion van in front. The vehicles ahead of us were overtaking the bullion van and we too followed.
“I nearly passed them when I heard a shot and I heard a bang on my car. We stopped and we saw that they have fired at our car.
“They didn’t stop. We stopped at Erin-Ijesa and complained to the police at the check-point that we were fired at by some police following a bullion van at Ile-Oluji juction.”
narrating his ordeal further, Falae said: “I don’t know why I was kidnapped recently, why I was arrested in 1997 and locked up for two years and now shot.”
The image maker of the Osun state police command, Mrs Folashade Odoro, when contacted, said they were yet to receive official report on the issue.
